Mary Carter Greenway Trail Closed at C-470

Northbound and southbound Mary Carter Greenway Trail is fully closed at the C-470 underpass due to continual flooding of the South Platte River.
This emergency closure will be in place until water levels allow for safe passage on the trail.
Trail users intending to continue through the C-470 underpass must detour beginning at Mineral Ave., all others will be able to use the Mary Carter Greenway Trail from Mineral Ave. to just before the C-470 underpass.
  • Western Detour: Take the C-470 Bikeway trail west on the south side of C-470 along Chatfield Lake. Continue right to pass underneath C-470 and turn east to stay on the C-470 Bikeway trail. Join the Columbine Trail after crossing Chatfield Ave. Take the trail north along Chatfield Ave. as it turns into S Platte Canyon Rd. After crossing Mineral Ave. take a right and join the Mineral Ave Trail, continue on and then connect back onto Mary Carter Greenway Trail. (Approx. 3.2 miles)
  • Eastern Detour: Follow the Highline Canal Trail east, then turn left on the trail before the Centennial trail begins and continue as it goes under County Line Rd. Then continue north on the Highline Canal Trail to the bike lane on Mineral Avenue. Take Mineral Ave. across Santa Fe Drive, then get on the Railroad Spur Trail back onto Mary Carter Greenway Trail. (Approx. 3 miles)
Follow detour signs accordingly and go slow for the cone zone.

Project Background: The $276 million C-470 Express Lanes project will increase mobility and user choice along 12.5 miles between I-25 and Wadsworth Boulevard. In the westbound direction, two additional Express Lanes will be built from I-25 to Colorado Boulevard and one additional Express Lane from Colorado Boulevard to Wadsworth. In the eastbound direction, one additional Express Lane will be constructed along the length of the project between I-25 and Wadsworth Boulevard. The project also includes full reconstruction of existing pavement, the addition of auxiliary lanes at selected locations, on- and off-ramp improvements, realignment of substandard curves, widening of existing bridges, replacing the bridges over the South Platte River, the installation of tolling equipment and new C-470 trail underpasses at Colorado and Quebec. When complete, motorists will have the option to use the Express Lanes on C-470 for a faster, more reliable commute in exchange for paying a toll, or drive the general purpose lanes for free. Completion is scheduled for 2019.
