Since 1977, the Littleton City Council has annually renewed its Senior Refund Program, providing the city’s senior residents with a refund. The program is available to both renters and property owners. For property owners, the refund is based on the property’s assessed valuation. Refund amounts range from $10 to $100. Refunds for renters range from $10 to $30. The city council has recently changed the definition of property “owner” for calculating the refund amount. Those who have transferred a property title to a trust or other legal entity for estate planning purposes may now be eligible for a property tax refund based on the property’s assessed valuation. Applicants must have been 65 years of age or older on or before December 31, 2018, and resided within the city limits of Littleton for the entire year of 2018. Forms were mailed in March to those who received a refund the prior year. Those who did not receive a refund in 2018 will need to request a form for 2019. Newly eligible residents can obtain forms and information from the City of Littleton Finance Office, 2255 West Berry Avenue, or by calling 303-795-3764. Applicants must complete both sides of the form and attach their paid property tax receipt and a copy of their driver’s license or identification card. Forms can be downloaded from the city website and are also available for pick up at the Littleton Center. The deadline for filing is October 31, 2019.
