C-470 expansion making great progress

Trail Paving

Wall progress

Work continues on the construction of retaining walls between Lucent and the South Platte River. The most recent being near the westbound C-470/Broadway off-ramp and eastbound C-470 near the South Platte River.

Construction of noise walls is expected to begin between Lucent and Broadway in the near future. Residents in this area had the opportunity to vote whether or not they wanted the walls. Residents eligible to receive a wall in the area between Wadsworth and Santa Fe are also being contacted to cast their noise wall vote.

Mary Carter Greenway Trail detour

The Mary Carter Greenway Trail will have intermittent full closures as construction progresses near the South Platte River bridges. These closures are necessary to perform operations associated with the reconstruction of the east and westbound South Platte River Bridges. Closures will total approximately six months.

Two detours are available to trail users. Trail closure and detour information is updated on the CDOT Facebook page and Twitter, the project 24-hour hotline provides up-to-date bilingual information, and the project webpage is updated as often as necessary to deliver trail users information when making commuting choices. Detours can be viewed at www.codot.gov/projects/C470ExpressLanes or requested through the project email C470info@flatironcorp.com or the project hotline number 303-347-0507.

Reconstruction of the South Platte River Bridges and widening of the Erickson Bridge

Work on the new South Platte River Bridges has begun. In mid-July, crews installed a water diversion on the east side of the river in preparation for bridge foundation work. Construction is also taking place on the west side of the river along the Mary Carter Greenway Trail. When needed, flaggers have been placed to guide trail users through the construction zone. The South Platte River bridges are the only bridges being fully reconstructed with the C-470 project.

About the C-470 Express Lanes Project

The Colorado Department of Transportation kicked off the C-470 Express Lanes project in the fall of 2016. This $276 million project will increase mobility and user choice along 12.5 miles of C-470 between I-25 and Wadsworth Boulevard. In the westbound direction, two Express Lanes will be built from I-25 to Colorado Boulevard and one Express Lane from Colorado Boulevard to Wadsworth. In the eastbound direction one Express Lane will be constructed along the length of the project between I-25 and Wadsworth Boulevard. Two general purpose lanes in each direction will remain free for motorists. Construction is about 25% complete and is expected to conclude in the spring of 2019.
